Night Diving the Red Sea: What You Need to Know
The Red Sea after dark is a completely different world. Lionfish hunt openly, octopuses roam the rubble, and the reef glitters with bioluminescence. In this article I share the kit list, dive-site picks, and the buddy communication protocol that has kept me and my dive partners safe across dozens of Red Sea night dives.
## Torch selection
You need a primary torch with at least 1,000 lumens and a runtime of 90 minutes at that output, plus a compact backup torch worn on the wrist or clipped to a D-ring.
## Communication
Three circles = OK. Rapid side-to-side = attention. Big slow circles toward the surface = ascend now.
